US bridge and tunnel maintenance firm Dynamic Infrastructure has signed its first contract in Australia and will deploy its deep-learning platform across projects throughout the state of Victoria.
The New-York based start-up has partnered with engineering and consulting company IF3 Pty from Sydney to supply a multi-year license to Horsham Rural City Council for use of its platform on the entire inventory of bridges and infrastructure assets.
According to Dynamic Infrastructure, its Software-as-a-Service (Saas) product automatically processes past and current inspection reports’ photos and other existing visuals. The AI-based solution identifies future maintenance risks and evolving defects.
The company added that its proprietary technology provides live, cloud-based, risk analysis of any bridge or tunnel and automatically alerts when changes are detected in maintenance and operating conditions.
It said the solution can create annual saving for owners, operation and maintenance engineers and contractors by highlighting issues before they develop into large-scale failures.

“These moves offer huge potential for our company due to their sheer size and large number of infrastructure assets that need to be maintained.”
Dynamic Infrastructure said it viewed the area, which is located along the A8 National Highway from Melbourne to Adelaide, as a proving ground for its SaaS product, and that the project would enable Horsham Rural City Council to reduce direct and indirect maintenance costs.
In September 2020, the Australian government initiated the Bridges Renewal Program, which funds the upgrade and replacement of bridges to improve access for local communities and facilitate better vehicle access.
