German industrial robots manufacturer Kuka has delivered automated guided transport systems to BMW’s Bavarian production site.
The Kuka AIVI control system uses AI to direct the KMP 1500 automated guided vehicles (AGV) ensuring flexible material flow to an additional production line at BMW.
Kuka said a further 16 AGVs will deliver components, such as floor panels, engine mounts, rear panels and partitions, to both the front and rear of the vehicle using a set route to the processing station.
Michael Jürgens, head of Kuka AGV Solutions, said: “Our intelligent automated guided vehicle systems make the intralogistics of production fully automated, locally flexible and scalable.”
According to the manufacturer, its AIVI control system reduces the number of AGVs required enabling faster throughput times, efficient supply chain and greater production cost-effectiveness.
At the BMW site, AIVI currently controls five AGVs, which supply the individual production stations with component containers and also remove empty containers.
Furthermore, its software interacts with other automated vehicles, machines and employees. Kuka said the software reacts flexibly and reliably to constantly changing production requirements.
