German cutting machine tool manufacturer DMG Mori has announced that it is developing a 4,000m2 smart factory that will heavily feature automated guided vehicles (AGVs).
The company said its “ultra-modern cycle assembly” will feature an AGV transport system at the heart of the factory, creating high process efficiency and ensuring maximum customer benefit.
AGVs will autonomously navigate and transport machines through the assembly process in the new monoBLOCK excellence factory in Pfronten, a municipality in the district of Ostallgäu in Bavaria.
Moving at a continuous speed of 45mm per minute, the AGVs will feature in a model mix of the monoBLOCK 5-axis machining centres, which is created in 34 cycles.
According to DMG Mori, this concept increases production capacities by 30% and enables 1,000 customer-specific solutions, from the machine tool series, to be manufactured at the site.
Michael Horn, member of the board at DMG Mori, said: “Our new monoBLOCK excellence factory in Pfronten already shows today what production will look like tomorrow.”
Furthermore, DMG Mori has partnered with IIoT-enabled manufacturing app Tulip to provide its factory employees with digital information, images and videos via a specially developed app.
DMG Mori said the US start-up’s software enables users without programming knowledge to create their own applications quickly and intuitively.
Interactive checklists and test plans also document the entire assembly process in real time.
